Health Boosting Herbs

Flipping through my huge stack of magazines (I'm trying to go through them and pass them on to another curious reader/flipper) today, I saw a little something in Health magazine that I decided to share.

1) Rosemary - adding rosemary to marinades may cut your cancer risk. Antioxidants in the herb help combat potential carcinogens created when meats are broiled or grilled at high temperatures. (For those, like me, who don't know what carcinogens are, here u go, compliments of Wikipedia "A carcinogen is any substance, radionuclide or radiation, that is an agent directly involved in the exacerbation of cancer or in the increase of its propagation.")

2) Lavender - inhaling lavender aroma can help reduce feelings of depression and stress and make you feel drowsy

3) Thyme - ease a cough with thyme. Just soak the herb in hot water for a few minutes, remove thyme, and sip.

4) Basil (one of my fav cooking herbs!) - add chopped basil to your vinaigrette, it'll make your greens safer to eat. The oil from basil's leaves kills bacteria that can cause stomach bugs.

5) Sage - great air freshener. Place orange peel mixed with sage in small bowls for a nontoxic odor remover.
