2015 will be a happy year for CA hens, or will it? And what about "happy" CA cows?

The first paragraph of Huffington Posts' article by John Robbins made me jump with joy. 2015 will be the year that no eggs will be sold in CA that came from caged hens. But as I read on, my happy face turned into a frown.

Do you remember those "happy California cows" commercial? Well I do, and it always made me happy. But as the article points out, the commercial wasn't even taped in CA, more like New Zealand. And apparently if you're a government agency in CA, you can't be found guilty of committing false advertising. PETA is currently suing the California Milk Board, but without much success.

As I started to process all of this new and disturbing information, it got me thinking about the hens. Just because they can't be sold in CA, can they be sold in other states? Does the new bill mean that CA will allow factory farming on it's land, as long as it's not sold to CA residents?

After digging around a bit, it turns out that CA enacted Proposition 2, but that doesn't solve the current problem either. The bill simply gives animals a few extra inches of space, and still no grass or proper treatment.

Have we, as investors, become so money hungry that we're willing to turn our blind eye as long as we get our dividends? Is it really that hard to do what's right? Even if that means eating a little less meat, and buying products that came from non-factory farms? Speaking from personal experience, it's not that hard. Actually very easy! In the process of becoming a vegetarian I've discovered so many different foods that I probably would have never tried if I remained a carnivore. All we need to do is decrease the demand for meat. Let's eat it like people did back in the '20s, '40s, '60s. We don't need meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner! You can find delicious vegetarian meals here to substitute some of your meals.
